Introduction
Amazonat Jungle Lodge is located in Amazonas, the largest state of
Brazil, whose area is 1,600,000 square kilometers or about 600,000
square miles-18% of Brazil's territory.
Amazonat Jungle Lodge encompasses 1200 hectares, or 3200 acres of Terra
Firma. The privately owned property is covered with primary forest
interlaced by small creeks connected to the Urubú River, a tributary of
the Amazon river which flows behind the property.
The acidity of the water in this region inhibits the proliferation of viruses and mosquitoes. Stays at Amazonat Jungle Lodge can be considered mosquito free!
Since Amazonat is an ecological resort, all wood used for construction has the "Smartwood" certification issued by the Rainforest Alliance, a leader in sustainable forest management. Amazonat Resort is also a member of the Ecotourism Society.
We at Amazonat Jungle Lodge have dedicated our special refuge as a monument to nature.

The Lodge
Amazonat
Jungle Lodge accommodates its visitors in comfortable duplex chalets,
thus two apartments under one roof. In total there are 9 duplex chalets,
or 18 apartments. These can house a maximum of 54 guests (for groups
even up to 75 persons). All these chalets are identical, come fully
furnished and include a separate bedroom that is equipped with a
comfortable queen size bed. In addition, the living room is provided
with a bed sofa for two adults plus a single bed. In principle 5 adults
can be accommodated per apartment. Each apartment has a private bathroom
with toilet and washing table, as well as a small sitting area with bar
fridge. Ventilators are provided to keep the apartments cool. Nights at
Amazonat are considered cool all year round. Potable water in the
apartments comes from the mineral water source of the lodge. This water
is of the purest quality and 100% safe to drink. The lodge sells bottled
mineral water, too.
A
large outside deck with hammocks brings the guest into safe and intimate
contact with the nearby jungle. The construction style of the chalets is
typical of the region: lots of wood and no glass doors or windows;
instead, screens are used throughout to enhance your contact with
nature. Each apartment is named after one of the hundreds of local
birds, underscoring the fact that the Amazonat guest is known by name
rather than by number.
Our restaurant, Arara´s, is built in the indigenous style: completely
open with a palm leaf roof. It is here that guests meet each other
during meals and where they can enjoy a game of billiards or watch one
of many videos about the region. Our kitchen offers local dishes,
international cuisine and vegetarian specialties. We are especially
proud of it, since it is frequently praised by visitors from all over
the world. Rather than a fixed menu, we offer a choice of two or three
entrées that vary daily, based on what is available-we use fresh
ingredients only.
The small swimming pool is located a stone's-throw from the restaurant, adjacent to the palm grove, and has a spectacular view of the valley and the jungle beyond.
For guests looking for a
more challenging direct contact with the pristine nature, Amazonat Lodge
is offering a small Indian style campsite deep inside the Jungle, about
a 3 hours walking distance from the lodge. It can accommodate 16 guests
at the time offering small huts in which two hammocks are located. It is
from this location that more days treks are organized exploring the
undisturbed jungle under the supervision of our native guides.
In the Amazon river, at the Southern extreme of the estate, lies the Amazonat Observer. This is a large raft with 10 apartments that serves as a permanent observation station. From the deck of the Amazonat Observer, pink dolphins can be spotted almost all year round. The second floor houses a large observation deck with a small restaurant and bar. Here you can spend the night in a hammock, and experience sleeping in the open air. The apartments are basic, with a queen-size and a single bed, a private toilet and a shower with ventilator. The Amazonat Observer thus has a regular capacity of 20 people, and up to 30 for ‘youngsters’. The Amazonat Observer offers all that bird watchers, dolphin spotters or anglers may wish for.
All our administration staff and jungle guides are
multilingual, speaking: Portuguese, French, English, Italian, Dutch and
German. All have received specialized training regarding eco tourism
standard operation proceedings.

ATTRACTIONS
Amazonat offers a number of attractions that allow first-time visitors and new arrivals to adjust in a relaxed way to the jungle environment. You may wish to spend your first day at the resort unwinding at the swimming pool or the lake beach, walking through the orchid park, visiting Bertha's pond, bird-watching, exercising at our fitness stations, or getting a relaxing massage.
The
lake is fed by one of the many clear streams that meander through the
rain forest. Palm trees and white river sand make the shore as inviting
as a Caribbean beach. Here you can soak up the sun - and the jungle
sounds - while sipping a cool drink from the bar. The gentle slope
provides a safe, shallow play area for children, while the lake's
generous dimensions (about 75 by 300 m) allow plenty of room for an
invigorating swim.
The orchid park thrives in a tract of second-generation forest near the
chalets. It contains over 1000 orchid plants of many types. There is
always something in bloom from April through August. The orchids are
planted in the same way in which they occur in nature, so the visitor
must be alert in order to spot all the flowers. The paths leading
through the orchid park give the visitor a feeling for the jungle trails
that will be explored later with an experienced guide.
Bird watching can be
done just about anywhere, but is especially pleasant in the orchid park
(where benches have been installed for the purpose) and from the chalet
verandahs. Since the creation of the lake, moreover, a number of water
birds have been observed in addition to the original populations.

ACTIVITIES
Amazonat Jungle Resort offers a number of indoor and outdoor
activities to help you experience nature's rhythms, thrills and dreams.
Daily Walk: Every morning after breakfast, guests can choose to walk on
one of three main jungle trails in the company of our experienced
guides. The trails go deep into the virgin jungle: only a minimum of
vegetation has been removed, allowing you to walk safely. Foot
protection is strongly recommended.
A visit to Jane´s Place: About 3 km (2 miles) into the jungle, next to a
small stream, is a small Indian house named after Tarzan´s wife. There
the visitor can enjoy a leisurely lunch or spend the night in a hammock,
in groups of up to 6 people guided by our jungle guides. It is a rare
thrill to listen to the mysterious sounds of the jungle at night.
Indian Village: A primitive Indian style settlement has been constructed
about 7 kilometers (4 miles) from the lodge. Guests looking for the
ultimate challenge to spent more days under the bare Jungle canopy in
absolute basic conditions of a terra firma this is perhaps the challenge
of the vacation trip.
Amazonat Resort organizes several activities outside the hotel:
Urubú River Trips: The Urubú River, one of the Amazon's main
tributaries, is 15 minutes away from Amazonat by our air-conditioned
bus. It is famous for its natural beauty, and surrounded by pristine
forest. Many creeks, inlets and islands add variety to the landscape. As
elsewhere in this region, there are practically no mosquitoes due to the
relative acidity of the water.
Amazon
River: Highlight for every visitor to our lodge will be the Amazon river
trip. Due to the truly unique location of our lodge we are able to show
the guests two different water worlds in one river. The by the black
water dominated northern riverbank, black due to the discharge of the
Urubú river, is showing an abundance of birds in a mosquito free
surrealistic landscape. We will visit the Victoria Regia, the giant
water lily, which thrives here in large numbers. While crossing the huge
river, the visitor will witness the phenomena of black water running
side by side with the muddy Amazon river flow, with the opportunity to
meet many dolphins including the pink colored one. Once on the other
side, the south bank, one can take notice of the very rich Varzeas, with
the presence of wildlife, thousands of egrets and other exotic birds,
huge alligators and an incredible variety of fish. We leave this place
before dark, because mosquitoes thrive in these waters.
Adventurous and Survival Trips: These trips are all start at the lodge.
Depending the duration of the program, these trips follow one of the
many small streams leading to the Urubú river in canoes where the
activities are continued, while return to the lodge is by foot or bike.
Our survival treks are based on the same principle; it is however the
intention that the traveler will, with a very basic daily provision,
have to catch fish under the experienced supervision by one of more of
our Indian guides.
Island Survival: In the very photogenic Urubú River, with its fantastic
panoramic scenery, Amazonat Jungle Lodge owns a small (50 hectares)
private island. This property is located in a Indigenous Reserve. Guests
preferring to spent more days in absolute tranquility with guaranteed
unforgettable moments, will find in this location the real Amazonian
dream. From here expeditions, by land or by canoe, are undertaken to
explore life in and near the river.
