Cristalino Jungle Lodge

Introduction

South of Brazilian Amazon Basin, the world's largest continuous tropical rainforest, is The Cristalino Forest Reserve. It has been designated a Brazilian natural heritage site preserve because of its rare beauty and unique biological diversity. Amidst this diverse ecological sanctuary is the Cristalino Jungle Lodge. An ecologically sustainable lodge built in harmony with the environment and accessible only by boat. As you relax in this pristine environment, also internationally renowned for rare bird species, you will have opportunities to do first class birdwatching, trek in a pristine rainforest, swim in a crystal clear river, canoe, raft, indulge in catch and release fishing, or just relax on the dock or walk among the beautiful grounds of the Cristalino Lodge.

Program Information

Day 1

  • Arrival in the town of Alta Floresta by plane at 01:30 p.m.
  • Transfer to the Floresta Amazônica Hotel
  • Accomodation.Observation of specialty & endemic birds at the Hotel ground such as Crimson bellied parakeet and black-girdled barbet
  • Overnight at Floresta Amazônica Hotel (D)
Day 2
  • Early morning birding at the Hotel ground
  • After breakfast transfer to the Cristalino Jungle Lodge
  • Possible observation of birds on the way to the lodge
  • Transfer to the lodge, about 1.5 hours by dirt road and 30 minutes by boat
  • Arrival

  • After lunch, "Taboca" trail
  • Overnight at the lodge ( B/L/D)
Day 3
  • After an early breakfast, Rocky trail
  • Afternoon: trip up Cristalino river by motor boat, stoppage to walk the Brazil Nut trail ( possible observation of the Harpy Eagle)
  • Overnight at the lodge (B/L/D)
Day 4
  • After an early breakfast, Hill Trail
  • Afternoon: birding at the Curasow trail at the lodge ground
  • Overnight at the lodge ( B/L/D)
Day 5
  • After an early breakfast, trip up river
  • Stoppage for birding by the rapids
  • After lunch birding at the Piping-Guan trail .
Day 6
  • After an early breakfast, trip down river
  • Birding at Instituto Ecológico Cristalino - IEC's Field Camp at a Teles Pires River Island
  • After lunch: a choice of the lodge ground trails. (B/L/D)
Day 7
  • After an early breakfast, trip up river to Dr. Haffer's trail
  • After lunch, transfer to the Teles Pires river bank
  • Birding by the access road in the afternoon
  • Transfer to Alta Floresta late afternoon
  • Overnight at the Floresta Amazônica Hotel (B/L/D)
Day 8
  • Early morning free, observation of specialty birds at the Hotel ground
  • Transfer to the airport on time to catch the plane at 11:15 a.m.
Departs on request, minimum 2 participants. Prices given on request. Includes daily rates at Floresta Amazônica Hotel and Cristalino Jungle Lodge, transfers in/out (airport and lodge), all meals, trips described in the program, motor boats, canoes, bilingual naturalist guides (English, German). Subject to change.
